Lake County

"Florida in all its natural glory", is the best way to describe the Harris Chain of Lakes. Cypress and oak trees hundreds of years old line the shores. Wildlife abounds all around. Raccoons come to shore to watch your passage. Otters playfully swim along looking for their next meal. Egrets and Blue Heron stalk the cypress roots while Osprey and Eagles soar above the waters. The natural beauty and spectacle of these lakes is unforgettable.

Just minutes away from Orlando and a world away from the congestion lay this exquisite chain of lakes. Consisting of 148 square miles of open water, six canals connected lakes form the chain. These lakes are also the headwaters of the Oklawaha River, which provides access to the Silver River, Silver Springs and the St. Johns River. The best access and ramps to the chain are located in:

Mount Dora in Gilbert Park from Liberty Street
Tavares in Buzzard Beach from Route 441
Howey in the Hills in Hickory Point State Park from Highway 19
