Bass boats are simply just that:  boats used to fish for bass.  While, not necessarily the only type of fishing these boats are used for, it is what they were designed for.

Bass boats typically are side console driven models, with front (forward) and rear (aft) elevated casting decks.  The boats are predominately outboard powered, and most have an auxiliary trolling motor mounted on the bow.  The trolling motor is used for slow speed and very quiet operation when fishing.  Bass boats are manufactured from aluminum or fiberglass.  Aluminum has the advantages of being lighter, thus requiring a smaller motor to operate.  The lower weight is also advantageous when considering the tow vehicle required.  Aluminum is extremely easy to maintain and the packages start at lower prices.  An aluminum package (boat, motor, and trailer) start in the lower $7000 range and can go as high as $30000+.  The most popular size in the aluminum class is a 17ft with a 50hp outboard.  The popular package starts at around $10,500.  Fiberglass bass boats are more complex and flashy boats.  The molding process allows for customer shapes to be designed in and an endless option for colors.  The fiberglass boats require more power, due to being heavier.  They do offer more performance though, with some packages capable of almost 100mph.  The fiberglass boats tend to handle rougher water conditions, and combined with the performance and custom aspects, are the preferred choice of serious tournament anglers.  Fiberglass packages start just over $10000 and can climb to as high as $75000.  The most popular package in the fiberglass bass boat category is an 18ft boat with a 150hp outboard.  This package starts around $18000.
